Improvement of the corrosion behavior of AISI 304L stainless steel by deep rolling treatment under cryogenic cooling

The effects of deep rolling parameters, particularly, work speed and cooling conditions (dry cryogenic) on the surface integrity AISI 304L machined samples their further impact uniform localized corrosion behavior in chloride environment were experimentally investigated this work. electrochemical rolled was assessed using cyclic potentiodynamic polarization tests synthetic seawater. It found that components is related to combined factors: roughness, recrystallized grains, strain-induced martensite, microhardness residual stresses. Findings study exhibit grain refinement generated layers leads improved specimens with regard machining state. In addition, at a 25 m/min, without cooling, showed better resistance than those processed under cryogenic cooling. However, application speeds 75 120 m/min significantly enhanced mechanically treated specimens. Despite high amounts martensite can deteriorate behavior, it shown these conditions, presenting characteristics, depicted an resistance.
